$1.8B Public Private Partnership (PPP) The New Royal Adelaide Hospital (nRAH)

Role: Project Support to Operations Director | Stakeholder & Operational Coordination

Sector: Health Infrastructure | Government | PPP (Public Private Partnership)

Overview

The New Royal Adelaide Hospital (nRAH) was a $1.8B Public Private Partnership (PPP) delivered by SA Health in partnership with the SA Health Partnership Consortium (SAHP) and the Hansen Yuncken CPB Contractors Joint Venture (HYLC). At the time, it was one of the most advanced healthcare facilities in Australia and among the largest hospital developments in the Southern Hemisphere.

Located in Adelaide’s west end alongside the SA Health and Medical Research Institute, the hospital features 800 beds, 40 operating theatres, and world-class patient-centred design including 100% single inpatient rooms, integrated green spaces, and a large-scale commercial precinct. Designed for long-term resilience, the facility supports approximately 85,000 patients annually.

Key project milestones included Technical Completion (March 2017), Commercial Acceptance (June 2017), and full operational transition and opening to patients in September 2017—marking a significant achievement in the delivery of complex health infrastructure in Australia.

Role & Scope

Project Support to the Operations Director, working at the centre of delivery during critical final phases including Technical Completion, Commercial Acceptance, and operational transition. I operated across stakeholder coordination, project operations, and executive support within a highly complex, regulated, and politically sensitive PPP environment.

My role required managing competing priorities across government, consortium partners, and delivery teams while ensuring alignment across operational, stakeholder, and communication functions. I worked closely with SA Health, SAHP, HYLC, and project leadership to support seamless coordination during the transition from construction through to hospital opening.

Operating in a high-pressure environment, I supported both strategic and day-to-day delivery functions—ensuring effective communication, stakeholder alignment, and operational readiness across multiple workstreams during one of the most critical phases of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supported the Operations Director across day-to-day project delivery and executive coordination.
  • Managed stakeholder relationships across SA Health, Project Co (SAHP), contractors, consultants, and site teams
  • Developed and delivered construction notifications, stakeholder communications, and project updates
  • Coordinated permits, site access, inductions, and security processes across a live construction environment
  • Managed sensitive operational functions including drug and alcohol testing processes
  • Oversaw FIFO travel, accommodation logistics, and site visit coordination
  • Supported Technical Completion activities, including document control, archiving, and demobilisation
  • Maintained defects and fire-rating documentation using Bluebeam for QA and compliance
  • Provided cross-functional support to HSE, Development, and Finance teams including contracts, invoicing, and reconciliations

Key Achievements

  • Supported delivery of a $1.8B PPP health infrastructure project in a high-pressure, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Maintained strong stakeholder coordination across government, contractors, and executive teams
  • Ensured consistent, accurate communication across complex and sensitive project phases
  • Contributed to smooth Technical Completion and transition through effective coordination and document management
  • Demonstrated adaptability across operational, administrative, and stakeholder-facing functions
