Role: Communications, Engagement & Change Manager, Phase 2: Ground Investigation Studies

Role: Technical Engagement Specialist, PAR and PDR North South Corridor Reference Design

Sector: Transport | Infrastructure | Government

Overview

The North–South Corridor is one of South Australia’s most significant transport infrastructure programs, improving connectivity across Adelaide through major road upgrades and supporting infrastructure. The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) section represents the final stage of this multi-billion-dollar corridor, designed to unlock the city’s traffic network and deliver substantial economic, employment, and safety benefits.

Delivered within a complex joint-venture environment, the program spans multiple phases, including MAS, PAR and PDR, alongside large-scale groundwork investigations. These include geotechnical drilling, contamination and intrusive soil and groundwater investigations, and hydrogeological studies, all coordinated across multiple concurrent sites and technical disciplines.

Role & Scope

Stakeholder Engagement Manager (Phase 2 – Contamination, Geotechnical and Hydrogeological)
I led end-to-end communications and stakeholder engagement for Phase 2 investigations, independently managing the geotechnical and hydrogeological workstream across multiple live sites. This included contractor coordination, resource planning, and delivery across up to six simultaneous drilling rigs, ensuring all engagement, approvals, and communications aligned with critical project timelines.

Role & Scope

Technical Engagement Specialist, Reference Design (MAS, PAR and PDR Roadshow)
During the earlier phases (MAS, PAR, and PDR), I contributed as a technical engagement specialist, supporting the project’s community roadshow. This involved translating complex engineering and design information into accessible, community-facing content and interactive engagement experiences, enabling informed community participation and feedback through both in-person and digital engagement tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Led end-to-end communications and stakeholder engagement for complex, high-risk geotechnical and infrastructure investigation programs across multiple concurrent sites.

  • Directed onboarding, coordination, and performance of multidisciplinary project teams and contractors, ensuring alignment across parallel workstreams and delivery objectives.

  • Orchestrated communications for large-scale field operations, including drilling and testing programs with up to 6–8 active rigs operating simultaneously.

  • Designed and executed integrated communication and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned to program milestones, delivery schedules, and risk profiles.

  • Managed critical stakeholder notifications, approvals, and site communications within strict lead times, directly mitigating the risk of project delays and cost impacts.

  • Oversaw contractor interfaces and facilitated seamless coordination between technical teams, delivery partners, and project leadership.

  • Built and maintained high-trust relationships across government agencies, clients, contractors, and community stakeholders in a politically sensitive environment.

  • Established direct client engagement frameworks, including capability uplift and upskilling of client teams with limited infrastructure experience.

  • Provided strategic communications and stakeholder risk advice to project and executive teams, influencing decision-making in complex delivery environments.

  • Proactively managed stakeholder expectations in high-pressure, time-critical conditions with potential media scrutiny and public exposure.

  • Supported delivery of mobile community engagement roadshows, integrating digital tools and face-to-face engagement to enhance community understanding and participation.

  • Translated highly technical engineering, environmental, and design information into clear, accessible, and audience-appropriate communication

Key Achievements

  • Delivery Leadership: Successfully led communications and stakeholder engagement across multiple high-risk investigation sites, supporting continuous program delivery without delays
  • Operational Coordination: Coordinated communications for large-scale field operations, including up to 6–8 concurrent drilling rigs, ensuring seamless execution across parallel workstreams.
  • Program Recovery: Identified significant resourcing and scope gaps and developed revised business cases and delivery strategies to realign the program with operational requirements
  • Risk Mitigation: Maintained strict stakeholder notification and approval timeframes, directly preventing costly delays and protecting project timelines.
  • COVID-19 Adaptation: Sustained project momentum during COVID-19 disruptions by adapting engagement strategies to evolving restrictions and workforce constraints.
  • Stakeholder Confidence: Built and maintained strong, trust-based relationships across government, contractors, and community stakeholders in a complex, politically sensitive environment.
  • Technical Translation: Translated complex geotechnical, environmental, and engineering information into clear, accessible communication, improving stakeholder understanding and engagement.
  • Community Engagement: Contributed to effective delivery of mobile roadshow engagement across MAS, PAR and PDR phases, supporting informed community participation and feedback.
